About Devine Street Gospel Chapel

We would love to meet you this Sunday.  We are a welcoming church who together are “growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18.

Devine Street Gospel Chapel traces its roots back to the late 1800’s.  Since the beginning, it has been associated with a group of assemblies known as Brethren.   The Brethren assemblies have placed an emphasis on the importance of the Lord’s Supper and in preaching the gospel.  The assembly has been located on Devine Street in Sarnia since the early 1940’s.  Through the years there have been various improvements to the building.  The work has continued to evolve to meet the needs of the congregation and the community.

Our focus continues on to be on Outreach, the Lord’s Supper and on Missions.

You will find us to be a Bible believing, Bible preaching and welcoming church!

What do we believe?

The Bible   The Bible, as originally given, is inspired by God and every word is infallible. Through it God speaks to us today. It is our only authority in all matters of faith and practice.  1Tim.3:16,17      2 Peter 1: 20,21

God   We believe there is one God, who is triune, eternal, infinite in power, wisdom, love and goodness: perfect in holiness and existing eternally in three persons,  Father, Son and Holy Spirit.   Matt.28:19     John 14:26

Lord Jesus    We believe in the full deity and perfect humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth,  His substitutionary sacrifice, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, His High Priestly ministry and His personal return. 1 Tim. 3:16  1Peter 2:24,25

Holy Spirit   We believe the Holy Spirit to be a Person; is God; and that He indwells, seals and places into the body of Christ all believers at conversion. 1 Cor.12:13  Eph.4:30

Man  We believe, was created by God in His image and likeness, (Gen.1:26) sinned. As a result all men are sinful, guilty and separated from God. They are subject to God’s righteous condemnation. Rom. 5:12  John 3: 16-18

Salvation  We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins  and that through the shedding of His blood on the cross has made a way in which sinners may now come to Him in true repentance, accepting His finished work and by faith receive Him as Saviour. John 1:12    Rom. 5:6-9   Rom.6:23   Eph. 2:8-9

Church    We believe in the church as being composed of all true believers confessing Christ as Saviour. As a local church we practice the two ordinances given by the Lord Jesus, baptism by immersion and the Lord’s supper.  Rom.6:3-5   Acts 8:27-39 1Cor.11:23-26

Future   We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in Heaven and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost in hell. 1Thess.4:16-17    2 Thess. 1;7-9

Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh.    Matt.25:13
